I have been working with software since the early 80s. Initially using 8 bit processors before moving on to the 32 bit ARM processor at the end of the 80s. During this time I also used UNIX and VMS. I first used Linux in about 1995 which was when I returned to University to study for a Masters specialising in Machine Vision. I subsquently put together the first ARM Linux distribution. I have worked in embedded software, application software, client/server and comms. I have been active in the FOSS community off and on since then.

I enjoy sharing my knowledge and empowering people with technology. I have been a systems administrator for 12 years, worked in web design for 10 years, and have presented technical courses for a wide variety of topics to age groups from children to seniors.
In 2007, I branched off the 8 year old http://linuxchic.net website by starting the weekly tech show, http://alternageek.com which focused on a broad range of technology subjects. Now-a-days you will find me lurking around posting random rants & howtos and sneaking linux on unsuspecting computers to ease the frustration of users.
